In the night viewers of the digital generation the residual light amplifier tubes are no longer used, but instead highly developed digital video technology, which also works without wear and tear as compared to the tubes. The picture quality achieved via the digital technology is excellent and is comparable to the tubular night viewers of the 2+ generation. The pictures are generated via a highly-sensitive CCD-scanning system. The invisible image field illumination enables an unnoticed observation at best brightness. Thereby, 2 IR-headlights are available: One constantly illuminates the observation field and is suitable for observation at a high ambient brightness (e.g. starry moon-lit night), and the second can be connected and swings into action when it becomes completely dark or under poor light conditions The intensity of the illumination can be set and stored for the next use. A video-output enables the playback on an external monitor or picture recording on a recorder.
